Poster looks really freaking cool and the supporting cast are just as awesome with Ray Winstone, Idris Elba, Javier Bardem and Mark Rylance.

From the director of Taken and The Transporter. Now, is that a good thing?? Well I thought Taken was great when it it first came out. If you turned off your brain then it was a great bit of escapism… However stupid and unbelievable/realistic it was.

Now for The Transporter…… Ok, thats enough about The Transporter.

If it didn’t have such a talented cast then I’d probably wouldn’t be giving this the time of day. Let’s hope there is a solid thriller here and not just guns blazing, nice cars and a high body-count.

I must say though, I am looking forward to seeing Sean Penn make a come-back. The man is a fine actor, as is his entire supporting cast.

Official Plot (IMDB)
An international spy must clear his name in order to save himself from the organisation he used to work for.

Kevin Bacon Has An Uzi And One Hell of A Moustache In first Stills From New Action/Thriller COP CAR

Seems that every time we’ve seen Kevin Bacon in recent years was on tv playing cop Ryan Hardy in The Following. When I first heard the premise for The Following I got real excited. kevin Bacon playing a cop hunting a serial-killer. But I couldn’t even make it through season one, I really wanted to like it but there was just something about it that didn’t click. Kevin Bacon was great, as expected, but i felt the show just didn’t have any depth, it seemed shallow and hollow, but that’s just my opinion. So if you ain’t a fan of The Following then Kevin Bacon has been pretty much non-existent.

A few stills have surfaced from new action/thriller starring Kevin Bacon called Cop Car which will have it premiere at next months Sundance Film Festival

The only available premise at this time is “Two-10-year old boys steal an abandoned cop car”

So who knows what the fuck it's going to be about. Kevin Bacon could be hiding in the trunk, high on drugs with loaded automatic weapons, or…. there could be loads of drugs in the car left by crooked cops and kevin Bacon is the pickup guy… or maybe Kevin Bacon just has a thing for cop cars and the boys won't sell him the one they found so he decides to break out the automatic weapons and go on a rampage until he gets what he wants.

The one thing we do know is that Kevin Bacon has an Uzi one hell of a serious looking moustache!! Thats enough for me… Im sold!!

XYZFilms To Co-Produce New Irish Warrior Monk Movie “PILGRIMAGE”

If you’re looking for a great action movie then you never have to further than XYZFilms. These are the guys who brought us THE RAID, THE RAID 2, THE DEAD LANDS, ON THE JOB, KILLERS and TUSK (not that Tusk is an action movie, but it’s a walrus movie. It deserves a mention) . These guys know what movies to back. If it has the XYZ mark, you’re guaranteed to be hooked up with some fine viewing.

As most of you know I follow this production company very closely and I’m always looking out for new releases to hook people up with and to simply try and spread the word as much as possible. We all know how huge THE RAID movies have become, but not all them have that recognition and therefore I think we need push them as much as we can.

I wasn’t expecting the news that they’re gonna be producing a new action movie set in the year 1209 in Ireland. The film is about catholic monks who are transporting some sort of relic from Ireland to Rome.. The film will be shot over a seven week period on the West Coast of Ireland and then also some shooting in Belgium. The film, which will be called PILGRIMAGE was written by Jamie Hannigan and will be directed by Dermot Muldowney who also helmed SAVAGE and LOVE ETERNAL. The movie will also be produced by Dublin based production company Savage Productions.

I have no doubt in my mind that this film is gonna feature some serious brutality and beautifully choreographed fight sequences.. And let’s face it, when have you ever heard of an action movie with catholic monks as warriors?? If you know me, and you know how passionate I am about film, then you’ll know how excited I am about this film. It’s so good to these guys take a stab at something so unique.

I have been trying to hook people up with new New Zealand Maori warrior movie THE DEAD LANDS. This movie has now been picked for New Zealnds Oscar entry for Best Foreign Language Film. I am hoping that this film will be the same and carry the same authenticity

Still very early days folks, but as always, we’ll be following it every step of the way.

Might even hit the west coast and see if I can find the set!!

Ben Wheatley Will Tackle The Action Genre With “FREE FIRE” Starring MICHAEL SMILEY & CILLIAN MURPHY

There is no stopping director Ben Wheatley. The man is an animal when it comes to releasing films. He is also one of the very few people who keeps getting stronger with each release. There is no doubt about it, he works hard, and that’s why he is one of the best filmmakers in independent cinema. If you think I’m wrong, then I’m afraid, as much as you love toking on it, it’s time to put down the crack-pipe.

He and his team have just wrapped up post-production on HIGH-RISE. A new thriller based on the novel of the same name by J.G Ballard (Empire of the Sun, Crash). The film stars Tom Hiddleton, Jeremy Irons & Siena Miller and is due for release sometime in 2015.. I’m following the film as much as I can and have tried contacting them to see how far away a trailer is. No word back as of yet ;( but I’m gonna try again real soon.

No surprise here at all but the man has already started working on his next project FREE FIRE. A new action film based in 1970’s Boston. The cast include Cillian Murphy, Michael Smiley (no surprise there), Olivia Wilde, Luke Evans, Arnie Hammer.

Official Plot
The story is set in Boston in 1978. Wilde plays Justine, a woman who has brokered a meeting in a deserted warehouse between two Irishmen (Murphy, Smiley) and a gang led by Hammer and Evans who are selling them a stash of guns. But when shots are fired in the handover, a heart stopping game of survival ensues.

The only problem here is that it’s very early days for this film. It’s gonna be a long time before we see the finished product, but one things for sure, we’re gonna be following it every step-of-the-way.

This part 2 of my Top Ten Foreign Thrillers post. Featuring another 3 movies to watch out for. The final post whil be published on Saturday and will feature another 4 great films to watch out for.

Check previous post for films 1-3

New Australian comedy/thriller starring Leigh Whanel, Hugo Weaving and Angus Sampson. The film was written by Angus Sampson, Leigh Whanel and Jamie Browne with Angus Sampson also directing.

The Mule has been really well received on the festival circuit and has got solid reviews from anyone who had seen it. It’s currently rocking a solid 7.3 on Imdb.

I think the film is based on true story about a first time drug mule who has swallowed a shit-load of cocaine. He is caught by a cop who is played by the brilliant Hugo Weaving.. The only way to get the evidence is by waiting with him until nature takes it’s course and he has no choice but to take that big cocaine crap! the mule is persistent though, if he can wait it out 7 days, then he’ll be released.

Sounds like a lot of fun. If you’re unfamiliar with who Leigh Whanell is, he was the original man who wrote the first Saw movie along with his good friend James Wan. Leigh also played Adam in the first Saw movie and has also co-written and featured in the Insidious franchise.,

The only movie in my Top Ten Foreign Thrillers post that is guaranteed to be more action packed than all three Expendables movies put together. In saying that, that’s all that this movie seems to be and it ain’t afraid to show it.

The story of an ex-hitman who for some reason decides he has had enough of being a killing machine and wants to mend his evil ways. So in order for for him to pave his path to righteousness, he starts by kicking the absolute shite out of everyone he comes in contact with. Throw In a small village and a drug lord, sure what more could an action fan want??

Make no mistake this is a film for the action fan. If you’re looking for depth, meaning and character development then I’d give this one a miss. But if you’re looking for bone-crunching martial-arts, with some beautiful choreography and an extremely talented lead character played by Chilean martial-arts action-star Marko Zarornot hen why not give this one a shot.

Seems to be more of a comedy/drama than a thriller but I thought it deserves a mention anyways. The film is a bout an ex-con who decodes to go straight. He buys a tea-shop and starts his own business. When local developers want to knock down his shop to make-way for some new complex, the shop owner resorts backs to his old ways and a turf war begins.

I’m pretty sure this one has already been released and not, then you can expect it very soon. I have just seen the trailer for this and was automatically drawn to it. Did I understand what the fuck was going on in the trailer?, no, I didn’t !. Did I even remotely know what it was about, again, no, I didn’t. All I seen was a cop who was on the pursuit of a wolf that has been terrorising a village. When his search brings him to a nearby by wooded area, he meets a strange man in a long red dress and is carrying a samurai sword,. The samurai tells the cop that he is on a crusade, he then asks the cop to accompany him and the cop accepts.

I have no idea where this film is gonna go, it could turn out to be a love story but I highly doubt it. All I know is that is sounds original and judging from the trailer it looks pretty awesome as well.

Based on a hugely popular manga series by Hitoshi Iwaaki that was published from 1990-1995. PARASYTE tells the story of 17 yr old Shinichi Izumi, a kid who is unaware that while he is laying sleeping, a worm-like alien is trying to take over his body, but because he is wearing headphones, the alien is unable to get into his ears and infect his brain, so it burrows a hole in his arm. When he wakes the next day he finds that most of the human-race has been taken over by aliens, and that his arm can mutate into just about anything (think Prototype only more insane).

I haven’t had the pleasure of reading the manga series but I must admit it looks and sounds absolutely awesome and completely original.

it was recently announced that there was a live-action adaptation coming our way which will be split into  a two part series . The first instalment will be here as early as November, with the second following sometime next year.

I also read an article that Gareth Evans (writer of The Raid and The raid 2) had joined the cast. I have no idea if this is true. If he is involved then I’d say he’d be behind the camera rather than in front of it.

an Anime version is also on the way

No doubt this is gonna be another beauty from production company XYZ FILMS. XYZ FIKMS keep releasing fantastic movies, and there is no sign of them ever stopping. These guys know what they’re doing. They have given us classics like THE RAID, THE RAID 2, TUSK (not yet released), BIG BAD WOLVES, ON THE JOB, THE NIGHT COMES FOR US (not yet released). Now we have THE DEAD LANDS to add to the list.

After his tribe is slaughtered through an act of treachery, Hongi – a Maori chieftain’s teenage son – must avenge his father’s murder in order to bring peace and honor to the souls of his loved ones. Vastly outnumbered by the band of villains, Hongi’s only hope is to pass through the feared and forbidden Dead Lands and forge an uneasy alliance with the mysterious ‘Warrior’ a ruthless fighter who has ruled the area for years. — IMDb Plot: The Dead Lands (2014)

4COLT 45
Not only do the the French make quality horror films, they’re also pretty damn good at making thrillers. It’s been a while though since I have seen any French film (of any genre) that’s left it’s mark with me. The trailer for this looks really good, but there was a horrible stench of an inevitable American remake, such a rancid stench, you can almost see it coming through your screen.

Another manga adaptation from japan, this time, veteran director Takeshi Miike is the man in the directors chair. Miike has been out of action for quite some time but recently he’s been attached to direct three movie AS GOD SAYS, OVER YOU DEAD BODY, also a world war 2 drama/thriller that will star Tom Hardy (not sure of the title, sorry).

Miike is no stranger in bringing us ultra-violence adapted from a manga series. ICHI THE KILLER was, and still is one of the most shocking and daring films of recent years. A film that is guaranteed to make you go ” wtf did I just watch?”.

What I admire about Miike is that he has always been a daring filmmaker, films like AUDITION, ICHI THE KILLER,HAPPINESS OF THE KATIKURI’SVISITOR Qhave proved that the man is one the best in the business. He really doesn’t give a shit about censorship.. His films are as raw and brutal as they come and more than often, very graphic and extremely disturbing. So, Mr Miike, I salute you sir!
