GREAT FOREIGN THRILLERS RELEASING SOON

1: A HARD DAY
OFFICIAL PLOT (asian wiki)
Detective Gun-Soo (Lee Sun-Kyun) is involved in a car accident which he attempts to cover up. He then falls into an unexpected situation with the only witness Chang-Min (Cho Jin-Woong) threatening him. Chang-Min hides his true purpose and identity from Gun-Soo.

MY THOUGHTS
This looks like it can be another huge hit from South Korea. The description above doesn’t really give you any clues to how he covers up the hit & run accident.

When he accidentally kills this man, he tries to dispose of the body in his recently deceased mothers coffin. I think the coffin is in a funeral parlour and he has to open up the coffin and throw this body on top of his dead mother. Now that sounds a little bit unsettling, doesn’t it?

Obviously the shit hits the fan and things spiral out of control when he receives a phone call from a stranger who claims to have seen him cover up the accident.

So, I’ve absolutely no idea where the film will go, but one thing is for sure, Korea sure does know how to bring us a good fast paced and original thriller.

2: ICE POISON

NO OFFICIAL PLOT

MY THOUGHTS

It’s not very often (actually never) that I’ve  sat down to write about a film from Burma.  The only man I’ve known to be man enough to enter Burma was a certain man called john Rambo, and even he was hesitant. I couple years back I watched an astonishing, yet heartbreaking documentary called “Burma Vj” which I just thought I should mention because it really is something that everyone should see.

“Ice poison” follows two main characters in what looks like a documentary style film. The two characters are poor and struggling to make ends meet, and are left with no other choice but to go into the drug trade and start selling crystal meth. So, we can only imagine how things will turn out. With the style of filming involved I thinks it’s safe to say that it’s gonna be very realistic, dirty, and gritty as hell.

3: NO TEARS FOR THE DEAD

OFFICIAL P,OT (asian wiki)
A love story between a professional hitman and his next target.

MY THOUGHTS
OK, I could be doing without the love story side of of things, but I’m pretty sure this is destined for greatness as it’s the new film from “Man from nowhere” director Lee jeong-Beom. The trailer looks great, but I’m sorry man, I just can’t dig the epic asian pop songs that are sometimes played in these trailers. Im sure it’s huge in Korea and everyone loves that type of music. I honestly think that it leaves a really cool trailer dripping with cheese and I’d even go as far as saying that I have my head in my hands every time I hear one. Just as well they make some of the finest films on the the planet, so I can forgive them for their love of pop music.

COOK COUNTY

Anybody who enjoyed “requiem for a dream”, “basketball diaries” or any other morbid and fucked up drug movie would enjoy this one. It’s stars the dude from AMC’S western tv Show “hell on wheels” “Anson Mount” and his character is nothing less than fucking mental and so unpredictable, it’s almost unbearable to watch. The acting and characters are fantastic and the drug scenes are done brilliantly. The film is drenched in poverty and realism and this film should be watched by everyone, for educational purposes if anything. You will think twice about hitting that crack pipe once you’ve seen this. A powerful and unpredictable performance from “Anson mount” as he plays a father of a family in the depths of meth addiction.

THE LIVING & THE DEAD

This film is probably the most fucked up drug film that I have seen. This film will scare the shit out of you, and yes I would consider it horror film, but not of the kind that we all know and love so well.
The film follows a young mentally unstable boy who lives in a giant almost derelict mansion along with his very sick mother and father (trigger from only fools and horses). The father has to leave for London and hires a home help to help along with his son and his sick, bedridden wife.
The son “James” is furious at his fathers decision, and thinks he is perfectly capable of looking after himself and more importantly his sick mother, so when the father leaves he refuses to let the nurse in and takes it upon himself to try and look after his mother while still trying to look after his own fragile and tormented mind.
One of the strongest lead performances by “leo bill” that I have ever seen in any film. A genius movie in every aspect.
Prepare to be marked.

EL INFIERNO

The film starts off with “Benny” getting deported back to Mexico from the United States . The border cop says something like ” welcome to Mexico, don’t ever fucking come back”, and from that moment on Benny is thrown back into the world of violence, drugs, guns which he tried to leave 20 years ago. After being mugged several times at gunpoint on his first day back “Benny” is now desperate and sees no other choice but to hook up with old friends who now work for a cartel. He needs to earn money and get his brothers wife and his nephew across the border and back into the United States.
I don’t think this film would work any wonders for the Mexican tourist industry, it really does make Mexico look like a really bad place, hence the name “el infierno” (hell), but in saying that, this film is remarkable, brilliantly written, acted, extremely violent, sad, and has murder and corruption in almost every scene, but the best thing about this film is that although it had all the violence, murder and corruption and is drenched is depressing and shocking realism, they still manage to keep you laughing and entertained right to the end.
Highly recommended
