Grimm love

When I worked in the video shop we used to get new releases on a Thursday . So every Thursday was like Xmas as I never knew what films the owner would get for the shop. So one Thursday a little goth girl comes into the shop and asks me “did I have any good horror films” so I said “NO” (in a nice way )and that 90% of our horrors are complete shit and the other 10% she probably would’ve already seen. I told her I had just got this movie in , it’s a horror but I have absolutely no idea what it’s about or if its any good and its called “Grimm love”.
So the next day I was working extremely hard watching films in the video shop , when the little goth girl burst through the door (she looked fucking freaked man )and came up to the counter , handed me the DVD and was shaking and said “why did you give this film to me ,I’m only 17”.
So off she went out the door scarred for life and all I could think was I MUST SEE THIS FILM AT ONCE.. So the moral of that story is , if you like your horror films sugar coated then I’d give this one a miss, a real uneasy watch (especially if you’re a bloke)
Anyways it’s based on the real life cannibal story that we all know so well about the dude in Germany who let some other dude eat him for dinner and told though a college students thesis The fact that its a true story is very unnerving , they’re most definitely is some freakoids out there.
This film wouldn’t be the best and personally I thought that the film would’ve been better If it didn’t have the student storyline and completely focused on the cannibal dude. I thought that the student storyline americanised the film and made it quite predictable , but in saying that I thoroughly enjoyed this film and just like that little goth girl from me video shop, it left a mark on me also.
So watch this if ya wanna see a guy eat parts of his own cock after it being chopped off and fried with onions..
I can’t believe I typed that last sentence hahahahahahahahaha

The revenant

Two best friends decide to take down all the scum in town , just so happens one of them was killed at war a while back. This movie is hilarious and I find that rare in American horror comedy . I wouldn’t consider this a zombie movie at all, i mean it don’t have loads of dead folk roaming around trying to devour your yummy flesh. It has a dead guy , who is sort of freaking out cause he’s dead and decaying and also craving blood . Then you have the best friend who thinks its awesome (that would be me haha) this film is defiantly up there with the finest of horror comedies and most defo a cult classic.

Them

Based on a true story and probably the most effective “home invasion” type film . “Them” follows a couple who live in a isolated house in a rural area in Bucharest, Romania and one night their house becomes under attack , leaving them no other option but to defend themselves.
The film focuses a lot more on the suspense side of things , rather than going for the gore/violence This film is tense and horrifying and could happen to any one of us .
There was also an American remake of this film (surprise, surprise) called ” the strangers” and even though the film was a carbon copy of the original , it lacked the claustrophobic/tense feeling that you got from “THEM”.

The silence

A slow burning suspenseful thriller from Germany about an old cop who comes out of retirement when police discover a missing girls bike at the exact same spot as an old rape and murder case that happened 23 years ago.
This film got great reviews all round and I only had the pleasure of viewing it about 6 months ago , it has been compared by loads to the hit Danish tv show “the killing” so if you like your thrillers slow as bejaysus with great character development and storytelling then I advise you to check it out , it won’t disappoint you .

GOD BLESS AMERICA

Its just like “natural born killers” and “falling down” got together and had a baby . The film follows office worker frank (joe Murray from amcs madmen) as he decides to take out the filth and poison in American society ( basically American idol and reality tv stars ,basically people you would actually enjoy watch being killed) a really well written script and a fantastic performance from joe Murray . This film didn’t get the praise that it deserved.

Martha Marcy May Marlene

The way this story is told is really unique . Rather than having a whole film about a dangerous cult and the brainwashing that goes on by the creepy religious cult leader , It follows a girl who managed to escape from the cult just before she was completely brainwashed ,but she be brainfucked.
The story is very cleverly told using flashbacks and focuses a lot more on the fucked up mind of this girl rather than having a whole other Charlie Manson type film.
Elizabeth Olsen is really really good , I had my doubts when I heard the name “Olsen” but after watching this film I was blown away by her performance and i hope she chooses more roles like this one , she is by the far the best female actress going !!

The loved ones

I steered clear of this movie for such a long time . The fact that one of the dudes from twilight was in it was scary enough ,and I thought that any film bearing the mark of twilight on the front cover would just be complete crap ( starring xavier Samuel from twilight) but I was wrong . This film was great and I have to admit the dude from twilight was really good . The storyline is simple, a girl asks a guy to the end of year high school dance and he says no (very bad idea), as brutal and just as good as other Australian horrors like “wolf creek” and “storm warning” and replacing the angry crocodile dundee serial killer type with a mad loving father and high strung teenage daughter. This film is most defo up there with the best of Australian horror movies .

Don’t watch trailer as it gives away a lot of the storyline .

Harold’s going stiff

A heartfelt zombie film shot in mockumentary style. It follows Harold a elderly man who has contracted o.r.d (onset rigors disease) a virus that has hit England and has been infecting mainly men.
Harold’s receives home help from a nurse called penny ( who is also fantastic )and the film is about the relationships between the two of them . It has a little bit of everything , horror, drama, violence, comedy .
Stan Rowe plays Harold and his acting is just unreal . You seriously feel for the character as you have been with him since the very start and you’re watching him go through the different stages of this disease.
Meanwhile a group of vigilante dudes have formed ( they reminded me of the dudes from dead mans shoes) they are going around town and killing anyone that is showing any signs of infection.
If I told you Shane meadows or ben Wheatley made this film then you wouldn’t question it .
It’s fits right in with the best British film makers around .

Tucker & dale vs evil

One of the best American horror comedies in years . Tucker and dale takes a really tiresome storyline and flips it upside down giving the hillbilly/redneck horror movie a new lease of life.
It Follows tucker & dale , two best friends and damn nice guys who just so happen to be hillbillies.
They live in a cabin in the middle of the woods and they’ve never done anyone anybody any harm,
then we got a group of teenagers , the usual annoying set of characters who you would like to see die in horrible ways, and that they do but with a fresh new twist .
Purposely oozes with cheese but in a really clever way .

A prophet

This film is more than likely my favourite gritty prison drama. The story of a young Arab man who gets thrown in jail and makes his way up the ranks in the drug/crime world. Tense , gritty and ultra violent and sometimes quite hard to watch ( razor blade in mouth scene ). This film would be for fans of films like , Romanzo Criminale, Mesrine, Cell 211.
Enjoy , if you haven’t seen it .
